This blog is about Hamilton Academical Football Club - the Accies.
Now confirmed by a holding statement on the club's official websiteTributes will follow in due course, but the least that should be acknowledged is that Billy Reid was the most successful Accies manager since the 1930s, and hopefully the discontent expressed by some fans over the last two or three seasons will not cloud memories of a true Accies legend.Speculation as to Billy's replacement will rise until a new appointment is confirmed, but if the rumour that it is Alex Neil proves to be correct, I hope he'll be given time to prove himself.
My guess, and it is only that, is that Alex Neil will hold the fort until the end of the season when a decision on a permanent replacement will be made. Interesting that this news comes following a victory which virtually ensures that Accies will not be involved in the relegation battle or in any play-off this season.
Now confirmed that Neil and Frankie McAvoy will manage the first team until the end of the season.
Disappointed and sad to hear the news. He was probably the best ever Accies manager and he will certainly be a tough act to follow given his achievements.
Best Accies manager in my time supporting . Sad that it's over but time to look forward and hope we get someone who can take us forward. It's no an easy job and our fans are hard to please. They now have to play their part and support the club/team/new manager and forget about the petty squabbling . Thank you Billy Reid for all you've done for my club. Bring on the Pars
I find the timing strange as I don't believe he was under pressure from the club. Last night's win keeps us out of serious relegation trouble. I'm sorry he didn't wait until the end of the season and see what sort of budget he was going to get. Whatever anyone with a balanced view cannot fail to acknowledge all that Billy has achieved for this club. I remember going to the first SPL game against Dundee United and at 1- 0 down thinking here we go its the 80's all over again. How wrong I was. Billy - Thanks for the memories
Apparently, this had been under discussion for a couple of weeeks. Agree with the thanks and good wishes. If Billy had not been highly respected, the good players would have been off before we had reached the SPL.
