Accies vs Raith Rovers - Sat 20th April 2013

Next up for Accies is a home match against our closest rivals in the league Raith Rovers. The remarkable month of April will see Accies ultimately play 7 league games. So far it's been going pretty well - with 4 wins and 1 draw under the belt and 13 goals scored and 3 clean sheets in the process. The winning streak was halted on Tuesday night at Livingston with a slightly disappointing 0-0 draw, however there is a confidence in the team at the moment that can hopefully see them get back to winning ways on Saturday.

Our opponents Raith Rovers also come into the match on the back of a 0-0 draw at Firhill where, according to media reports, a fine performance from them delayed the league championship winning party for Partick Thistle. They've had a very respectable season under the leadership of their promising young manager Grant Murray. With only 3 games remaining I'm certain they'll be looking for a victory in order to give them a chance to overtake Accies and secure a 5th place finish.

Accies will still be without the suspended Page while Ryan is now free from his suspension. Hendrie and Longridge both made claims for a starting place with fine substitute performances at Livingston. Given that this will be the 6th game in 18 days for the players it might be appropriate to bring in some fresher legs.

  1. You have to fancy us to get the result that will keep us ahead of Raith and in fifth position. This being Accies, maybe this is where the wheels come off the bus and we suffer a loss - I doubt it, though. I'll take Accies to win, say 2-0.

  2. It should be a victory for Accies but Raith are no pushovers. The new free scoring Accies should be able to put at least 2 past Raith however it will be interesting to see how they would cope if for example we go 1 down. Hendrie and Longridge from the start please. Will be interested to see if the crowd is up. Weather has improved, results improved so hopefully 1200+

  3. Nice to get the score right, but I didn't actually see the second, as my 5 year old hasn't managed to complete 90 minutes yet. Great bit of skill by Gillespie to make the first for May, and I thought Crawford shone in the first half. With results elsewhere, a very good day for us, and I wonder if we may yet make fourth - or even third!

  4. Great result - well done AN and the team. I thought this was a real banana skin, but isn't every game in this division? As an aside, and this really belongs in another thread, am I alone in not really bothering too much, from an Accies PoV, what structure we play under? I know there are all sorts of issues about the national team, performance in Europe, etc, as well as sustaining full time football below the SPL, but, week in week out the 10 team 1st Div is as unpredictable as it gets and that alone makes it interesting. For me. I'm off on hols for a week, now, to the land of no internet (Scourie). Have a great week, y'all.

  5. A good day all round with Livingstone and Falkirk also losing. At 1- 0 a comeback from Raith was always on the cards and they had a couple of chances in the second half but no to be. I think Cuthbert had only one real save to make. Raith fans on Pie and Bovril none to happy with the way things are going. Oh the difference a winning streak makes!
