Accies vs Airdrie - Tuesday 9 April 2013

Accies face Airdrie (United?) on Tuesday at NDP having registered a very good win at Dunfermline on Saturday.  On paper, this should be an easier match to predict, with Accies having taken 7 points out of 9 against Airdrie so far this season, scoring 9 goals in the process while conceding only 2.  If Alex Neil and Frankie McAvoy's men were to maintain that scoring average, (which matches their own scoring average as a management team!) I suspect that we will see another comfortable Accies victory.  I have no reason to suspect that Alex will drop himself back into the team for this fixture and Gary Fisher remains out with an injury.  Page could be recalled, depending on whether Neil/McAvoy wish to give Devlin 2 games in 4 days, with another game to come in a few days  (repeat ad nauseam).  Otherwise, I expect to see an unchanged side.  Accies are free from any lingering direct relegation worries but are not yet mathematically out of the play-off equation. 4 more points, Cowdenbeath dropping 4 points or Dunfermline suffering a draconian administration punishment will resolve this issue (for Accies).

More worrying for this commentator is that Accies picked up another 5 bookings on Saturday.  Ill-discipline has been an issue over the last couple of seasons and while Alex Neil may not be the individual best placed to resolve the matter, I suppose a job share allows his colleague to major on this aspect of player management!  It would be disappointing to see the start of next season affected by suspensions held over from this year, especially at a time when the job for the season is complete, bar the last lick of paint.  Victory tomorrow night will bring us to the point of watching the paint dry for the rest of the season!

  1. Can't make this one unfortunately but a win should be on the cards although Im not expecting a goal fest. Alex may try a bit of squad rotation bearing in mind the following week's games but not a lot to rotate with!

  2. A chance to try and get a few goals although you never know with Accies. I'd hope McShane is OK to start again with May up front. I'd like to see Fisher back in for this as I thought the midfield lacked a little forward thrust on Saturday at times. He makes some good runs when in the mood. Reminds me a little of Steve Clarke . Either that or Longridge to come back on. He's done really well for us recently and has improved so much since the start of the season, He also works so hard defensively in that position. A few goals plllease, A win at least.

  3. Fisher is injured, Dougie, and Longridge took a knock in training today. No info yet as to whether Louis' knock is going to affect his selection for tomorrow night.

  5. It would be nice to keep the winning streak going as we head towards the end of the season. The opportunity to build some confidence and climb a few places in the league should be enough to motivate the players and fans. Anything less than a win would be disappointing.

  6. Easy win in the end. Very little opposition from Airdrie. And that's us up to fifth.

  7. Excellent win. 5 goals without reply does wonders for the goal difference. Good to see Accies really put a team to the sword and not be content to play out a 2 or 3 nil. Could make the difference at the end of the season between 5th and 6th - I wonder what the prize money difference is?

  8. An easy win and a very attacking, entertaining performance. Great to see young Brophy make his debut and score an excellent goal. You could see how delighted the rest of the team were for him. The confidence that the players must have taken from last night will hopefully help to keep the winning streak going at Livingston on Saturday.

  9. Glad to see a convincing win and Mcshane getting on the score sheet for the second game running. While much is being made of Accies now playing two strikers and what a difference it makes I wonder where we would be if Mcshane hadn't been injured in September just as May came on board. The big difference over the last 3 games IMO is that John is back and his presence in the team seem to be helping.

  10. Agree with you about McShane, He was excellent at Dunfermline , One of our best players that day. Good to see him amongst the goals again. He looks like the perfect foil for May and it's taken a bit of pressure off May . Before the opposition knew our focus was May. Now we have another option
