What a great result for Accies today. First win against Falkirk since Apr 2010 and it seems to have been a pretty comprehensive performance. The pitch was poor, the wind was blowing, but we created lots of chances against what seems to have been a pretty disappointing Falkirk side. However, teams can only play against the other team, not that other team's potential, so the win stands with the best of our results this season. Well done Jon Routledge and Louis Longridge on getting the goals.
This win takes us into 7th in the table, 3 pts ahead of the Blue Brazil (we have a game in hand), 5 pts clear of Dumbarton, who had a fine win at Dunfermline, and 13 points clear of Airdrie Utd. We now have 9 games to play and need look no further than Wednesday at Livingston and next Saturday at home to Dumbarton for the next challenges. This season's history suggests we won't win both games but this supporter would be delighted with 4 points, especially 3 of them are prised from Dumbarton.
In other football news, BBC suggesting that Derek McInnes (not Adams as I initially read it!) is on the verge of signing for Aberdeen. Interesting appointment. Discuss!!
Hopefully that's one hoodoo laid. Great result, and a valuable one in overtaking Cowdenbeath. Sorry to see Dumbarton come back at what could prove to be the last game ever played at East End Park, but we're looking better tonight. Onwards and upwards!
ReplyDeleteI think you are off the mark re Adams. BBC Scotland Open All Mikes were discussing McInnes's appointment and agreeing a good one. They also seemed to be suggesting that Livingstone would make an announcement on Monday re their position with John McGlynn a favourite but not a certainty as they have interviewed a few candidates. Wonder if that will have an impact on Livingstone after their mauling at the hands of Partick. Still i would be confident of something from them if we play like we did today. A good solid team performance against a poor falkirk. Alan preston was touting Queen of the South's management team for that vacancy. cant see that to be honest
ReplyDeleteIan - reported on Twitter by Kenny MacIntyre, re-tweeted by BBC Sportsound. It will be interesting to see if it turns out to be true.
ReplyDeleteThe BBC website has mcinnes as the headline
ReplyDeleteYou're right - I can't read!!
ReplyDeleteAccies were really good today. The decision to play Alex Neil as an additional centre back with Ziggy & Stephen Hendrie as wing backs worked well and the threat of Lyle Taylor was completely nullified. In fact the only time he was prominent was in the first half when he went down with a head knock; in fact all that had happened was that Martin Canning had headed the ball against him. The goals came at good times and were well taken and we really ought to have won the game by far more.
ReplyDeleteBut what surprised me was just how BAD this Falkirk team were today. I can scarcely recall a Bairns team that was as utterly feckless as this one and the fact that they're looking forward to a cup semi final and we're not is really galling. It is correct to state that Kevin Cuthbert did not make a save in the entire game and it was so cold that he might have been suffering from exposure by the end.
An excellent Accies performance today at a freezing and windy Falkirk stadium with no failures in the team. Very difficult to pick a man of the match because there were so many good performances. However, if pushed I would go for Alex Neil because he never put a foot wrong the whole game. Not far behind him were Page, Canning, Gordon, Longridge & May. As Gilbert has said it was also a really poor Falkirk team on show today and a much higher score wouldn't have flattered Accies. I've just about thawed out now and starting to look forward to a tough game against Livingston on Wednesday night.
